The first IPS gaming monitor with a response time of 1 ms (G-2-G) shows impressive response times.
The latter includes DisplayPort, HDMI, and USB 3.0 cables, cable clamps, mouse cable clamps and, as a paper supplement, safety instructions, pictograms as assembly instructions, and warranty information. Strangely enough, the enclosed CD-ROM again only contains safety regulations and Adobe Reader as an installation file. Manuals or the OnScreen Control software must be downloaded from the product website.
Under the first layer of styrofoam is the display, which is in turn protected from below by another layer of styrofoam.
First, the foot and support arm are plugged together and fixed with a wing screw.
The support arm’s retaining plate is then hooked into the VESA mount and locked using a snap-in device. There is also the option of attaching the display to alternative brackets.
Optics and mechanics
The LG 27GL850-B is made entirely of black plastic with red highlights. The panel is held in position at the top and on the sides by a narrow outer band. However, as with all displays of this type, the visible image of this frameless design begins 1 cm inwards. The lower frame has a height of 20 mm and shows the LG logo in the middle and the NVIDIA G-Sync logo as a sticker on the left, which provides information that the LG 27GL850-B has been added to the list of G- Sync Compatible Screens belongs to.
The LG 27GL850-B has a depth of 20 mm on all sides. In the middle on the bottom is the control unit of the OSD menu in the form of a 5-way joystick and a little further to the right is a small clamp that is to serve as a holding device for the mouse cable.
A round housing rises in the middle of the rear wall. It has ventilation slots on the outside that are highlighted in red. In addition to the LG logo, there is also the connection panel within the circle.
The support arm is connected to the display in the middle of the circle via the permanently installed support plate. The mechanism for rotating the screen from landscape to portrait position is also located directly on the mounting plate.
Directly behind it is another joint that allows the display to be tilted 5 degrees forwards and 15 degrees backward.
In most cases, the holding plate runs over a slide system within the support arm and is therefore responsible for the height adjustment. The mechanism of the LG 27GL850-B is hidden in a pipe system and allows a path of 110 mm. In the lowest position, the lower frame is 110 mm from the table surface.
A clamp is used on the back of the support arm for cable management, through which the cables are fed. The pipe system of the predecessor LG 27GK750F-B could still be twisted into one another to realize the lateral rotation (swivel) of the display. Unfortunately, the LG 27GL850-B does not offer this function.
At the very bottom, the pipe system is connected to the foot. The tube itself serves as the rear standing surface, while it is supported at the front by two arms that are at a large angle to each other. The stability of the construct is quite good and can withstand a little rough nudge without losing your balance.
The workmanship of the LG 27GL850-B is on a decent level. The surface of the plastic used has a high-quality haptic effect. The panel is also neatly fitted into the narrow case without it being wavy. The mechanics run smoothly and evenly without audible dragging. In addition, the design looks beautifully minimalist.
We could not elicit any sound from the LG 27GL850-B even with special test images. However, the development of noise, in particular, can be subject to a certain series spread, which is why this assessment does not have to apply equally to all devices in a series.
|Operation maximum||65 W||45.7 W|
|140 cd / m²||–||25.9 W|
|Operation minimal||–||17.5 W|
|Energy-saving mode (standby)||0.5 W||0.3 W|
|Switched off (Soft Off)||0.5 W||0.2 W|
According to the website, the LG 27GL850-B consumes less than 65 watts. The enclosed energy label states consumption of 39 watts. We measured a little more with a maximum of 45.7 watts. The display needs 25.9 watts at 140 cd / m², which results in a satisfactory efficiency of 1.09 cd / W. With 0.2 watts in soft-off and 0.3 watts in standby, the EU standard is achieved in both cases.
The small power supply stays nice and cool at 34 ° C. It also has a long enough cable to hide it.
The connection panel of the LG 27GL850-B is easily accessible in the middle of the rear wall. The horizontal connection direction is not the most elegant solution, but it is the most convenient for exchanging cables. With a DisplayPort 1.4 and two HDMI 2.0 interfaces, the selection is sufficient. There are also two USB 3.0 downstream ports for peripheral devices and a 3.5 mm jack for headphones.
