Lady Gaga has proven once again that she is more than just a singer. The 36-year-old star was recently spotted in New York City filming scenes for the highly anticipated Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux. Dressed head-to-toe in a red jacket, a black and white patterned blouse, and mesh black leggings, Gaga perfectly embodied the character of Harley Quinn.

The singer was joined by hundreds of extras as she shot scenes at Manhattan’s City Hall. With her long blonde locks slicked back and red clown-like makeup around her eyes, Gaga looked every bit the part of the iconic DC Comics character.

Gaga’s involvement in the film was confirmed back in June 2022, and later by The Hollywood Reporter. The singer herself then confirmed her casting in August with an animated teaser video that showed her and Joaquin Phoenix’s silhouettes dancing to old-timey music.

In the upcoming Joker sequel, Phoenix will reprise his role as the legendary Batman villain, while Gaga will play his longtime henchwoman and love interest, Harley Quinn. According to the film’s storyline, the pair first met when Harley served as Joker’s psychiatrist at Gotham City’s Arkham Asylum.

The role of Harley Quinn has previously been portrayed on screen by Margot Robbie, who played the character in 2016’s Suicide Squad and its 2021 sequel The Suicide Squad, as well as the character’s own spinoff movie, Birds of Prey (2020). However, Robbie has given her blessing to Gaga for taking on the role. “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” she told MTV in October.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day earlier this year, Warner Brothers released the official First Look image of Gaga and Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux, showing the pair in the moments after a passionate kiss, with Gaga’s red lipstick smudged all over Phoenix’s face.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Joker: Folie à Deux, which is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2024. With Lady Gaga’s star power and impressive acting skills, there’s no doubt that her portrayal of Harley Quinn will be nothing short of captivating.
